Ferrari did not receive tyre notification in time
Ferrari have claimed their Japanese Grand Prix was ruined by a late communication stewards ordering all cars to start the race on extreme wet-weather tyres.
Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa, third and fourth on the grid, both took to the circuit on standard wets, but were then forced to pit, dropping them to the back of the field and severely compromising their chances of challenging for victory.
“After a few laps, we were informed of a decision of the stewards that demanded the use of extreme wets,” said team principal Jean Todt. “The team had not been informed and only after the race, did we that an e-mail had been sent to Stefano Domenicali which arrived after the start of the race. We were amazed and had to immediately call in the drivers to the pits to change tyres.”
